A Study was done for 307 cases of macrosomia, infants weighing 4,000gm or more, deliveried at the Dept, of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Wonkwang University Hospital from Jan. 1, 1986 to Dec. 31, 1992.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. The total number of deliveries was 9,664 and the incidence of infants weighing 4,000gm lor more was 3.2% and that of weighing 4,500gm or more was 0.4%.
2. In relate to parity, there were 55.7% in multipara and 44.3% in primipara.
3. Most of the large babies were born in mothers aged 25-29(47.6%) and 30-34(27.4%)
4. According to gestational age, 59.3% of large babies were bone between 40 and 41 weeks of gestation, and 41% in 42 or more weeks.
5. Male to female ratio was 1.8:1
6. Cesarean section delivery rate was 32.9% and the most common indication for cesarean section was cephalopelvic disproportion.(56.4%).
7. Antepartum maternal complications were anemia(18.9%), HBs-antigenemia(9.1%),diabetes mellitus(7.5%) and preeclampsia(6.5%)
8. Perinatal maternal complications were prolonged second stage of labor(10.4%) and third degree perineal laceration(3.9%)
9. Neonatal complications were clavicular fracture(1.6%) and asphyxia(1.0%)
10. There were 7 cases of perinatal death, who were stillbirth in 4 cases and neonatal death in 3 cases.
